APRIL 2, 2011 ELECTION UPDATE…

Voters registered inside the City of Shreveport or Caddo Parish Commission District Two will be eligible to vote in elections on April 2, 2011. Shreveport voters will face three 20 year bond  propositions that will be separate choices. A special election in Caddo Commission district two will be held to select a successor to Rose Wilson McCulloch who was elected to the Shreveport City Council. The person selected will fill out the unexpired term through January 8, 2012 in accordance with state law.

The deadline for voter registration or changes to a voter’s record is March 2, 2011. Voters may submit voter registration applications online using this website ,  by mail (postmarked by March 2, 2011)  or in person at the Registrar of Voters office at 525 Marshall Street, Suite 103 in downtown Shreveport. Changes to a voter’s address, name or party affiliation would follow the same deadline. For more information, please call 226-6891.

The polling locations for Caddo Commission, District Two include: Northside Elementary School ( Precincts 1, 74), J.S. Clark School (Precincts 39, 71), Bilberry Park Recreation Center (41), Newton Smith School (Precincts 42,81), Lakeshore Elementary School ( Precints 45A, 45B), Pine Grove School (57), David Raines Center (Precincts 73A, 73B),  Northwood High School (Precincts 106, 137), and Lakeview Baptist Church (Precincts 130,135). ALL voters who vote at these precincts will be eligible to vote in the special election for Caddo Commissioner. If they are registered within the city limits of Shreveport then, they would also be eligible to vote in the city bond election, too.

Early Voting dates:  Saturday, March 19th  –  Saturday, March 26, 2011 (closed Sunday,  March 20th)
Open 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. each day. Registrar of Voters office, 525 Marshall Street, Suite 103 in downtown Shreveport across from the court house. Open primary election and open to all registered voters in the City of Shreveport OR all registered voters in Caddo Commission, District Two.
 
Deadline for voter registration or changes is March 2nd for the April 2nd election.
 
There will be three bond propositions for the City of Shreveport voters.  Voters will be able able to vote on each proposition separately. You MUST be registered within the boundaries of the City of Shreveport to be eligible to vote in this election.
 
The special election for Caddo Commissioner, District Two is to select someone to fill the unexpired term in 2011 for that position. You MUST live within Commission district two to be eligible to vote in that election.

The upcoming elections on Oct. 2nd and Nov. 2nd are OPEN PRIMARY and voters may vote for the candidate of their choise regardless of party.

Early voting for the October 2nd election for Shreveport Mayor and City Council, Caddo School Board, special elections for Lt. Governor and State Representative, District 5 and other municipal elections in Caddo will be held at the Registrar of Voters office, 525 Marshall, Suite 103 in downtown Shreveport across from the Courthouse during the following dates and times:
 

Sat. September 18th (Closed Sun. Sept. 19th)
Mon. September 20th – Sat. September 25th
8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
 
This is an open primary election where voters may vote for the candidate of their choice regardless of party. All registered voters are eligible to vote but most elections are by district. Voters should bring proof of identity such as a drivers license, voters i.d. card, governmental i.d., etc and should be prepared to wait up to an hour to vote. Disabled voters are allowed to go to the front of the line per state law.
